Paralympian John Eden leads throws clinic in Tonga

New Zealand Paralympian, John Eden, is taking his expertise to Tonga, where he is leading a throws clinic aimed at fostering a stronger Paralympic sports community. The event, supported by the International Paralympic Committee, promises to not only enhance the skills of existing coaches but also pair up athletes with coaches, opening doors for new talent.

Eden expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to work with the Tonga National Paralympic Committee and their dedicated volunteers. He believes that this collaboration is a pivotal step towards increasing awareness and promoting sporting opportunities for individuals with disabilities, ultimately building pathways in Para sports.

“Being in Tonga is an incredible experience, and I am humbled to be a part of this initiative,” Eden said. “Our mission is to provide guidance and support to athletes and coaches, thereby creating a conducive environment for disabled individuals to engage in sports.”

The coaching clinic, which started yesterday, is set to make a significant impact on the local sports scene. Athletes, both new and experienced, will have the chance to enhance their skills under the guidance of a Paralympian who has excelled at the international level.

The grant support provided by the International Paralympic Committee to the Tonga National Paralympic Committee is a crucial component of this endeavor. It is designed to bolster education, awareness, and the development of sports pathways for both athletes and coaches. Additionally, talent identification efforts will be conducted to ensure that promising individuals are identified and nurtured to reach their full potential.

The collaboration between John Eden, the Tonga National Paralympic Committee, and the International Paralympic Committee highlights the global commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the world of sports. The initiative is not only a significant stride forward for Tonga’s Paralympic community but also a beacon of hope for athletes with disabilities worldwide.

As the clinic progresses, it is expected to have a lasting impact, creating a more vibrant and inclusive sports environment for athletes with disabilities in Tonga and paving the way for future generations to excel on the international Paralympic stage.
